Oxfordshire businesses are coming together with four local charities to develop creative ways of working together for mutual benefit.

Many companies support local charities, which can also help fulfil corporate social responsibilities (CSR), but awareness is often limited on finding creative ways to complement essential fundraising. Young People ARE Your Business event will help businesses share those skills and resources, and learn how to benefit from working with the charitable sector. With the economic climate squeezing budgets and resources, businesses have less to give, but are also seeking new ways to gain the edge in order to succeed and grow – as well as developing staff, and improving their morale and wellbeing.

The charities behind the event – BYHP, OYAP, MAP and SKIDZ – each support young people in different ways to overcome the growing challenges they face. Clare Norton, Chief Executive at BYHP says, “Young people are vitally important to local businesses in so many ways. They are potential customers and future employees, and can be great advocates – especially with their use of social networks, and there are so
many ways that businesses can support them through our charities.”

Increasingly, businesses are also winning awards for building closer links to their local communities. Hunts -paper & pixels, the winners of The Jennings Ethical Business Award category in this year’s Oxfordshire Business Awards, will also be at the event.

Grant Hayward of Collaborent, who is helping to organise and promote the event, explains, “We will be showcasing some great examples to demonstrate how businesses are already engaged and benefitting. But these charities have a lot more to offer businesses through the great work they do. This works both ways.”

The event is being held at BYHP Banbury on 22 November, 4–6pm.
